The Hardship of a Housewife
The birth of my first child introduced me to a previously unknown social universe — parenting groups on social media. One universal narrative stood out: many women expressed disappointment over their partners’ inability to grasp the true nature of life at home, where unironed shirts and simple dinners often led to conflict after exhausting days.
This idea sparked an ongoing, playful photo series, The Hardship of a Housewife, exploring how a stay-at-home mother is imagined through the traditional breadwinner’s lens — as someone living an effortless holiday while children sleep or play independently.
The series humorously depicts the illusion of perfection that hides the everyday chaos of domestic life. It was published in the winter 2024 issue of Positiiv photography magazine.
